Tremayne Brown gets Helping Hand

Tremayne Brown, who saved 12-year-old Renaldo Reynolds’ life in the Trench Town Gully on September 8, received a reward for his efforts from the JN Fund Managers, (JNFM), a member of The Jamaica National Group.

The presentation to Mr Brown was made by Allan Lewis, managing director, JN Fund Managers, on Thursday, September 14. Mr Lewis also gave a gift to Alphanso Coombs, who assisted by pulling Mr Brown and young Reynaldo out of the Gully.

“I am very happy for this support,” Mr Brown said. “When I jumped into the water I didn’t think about any reward.”

The young man came to national attention when video footage was circulated showing him cradling Reynaldo, as a stream of water carried them through the Gully. A resident of Trench Town, Mr Brown, aged 24, jumped into the channel to save Reynaldo, and managed to do so with assistance from other community members.

“Your brave act has been an inspiration for your fellow Jamaicans,” Mr Lewis said. “We find it uplifting that, in these times when you just hear so much about violence and crime, and I thank you on behalf of The Jamaica National Group for your great deed. I trust that you will continue to be a beacon of hope for your community and the nation.”

Opposition Senator Mark Golding, who was part of the delegation visiting Mr Brown, discussed career options with the soft spoken young man, who said he had received training in health and welfare for children, while in Britain.

“You are an outstanding young man,” Senator Golding said. “You, along with Alphanso Coombs and Kenroy Martin who helped with the rescue, have done this community proud.”
